Every Day that I Choose to Keep My Covenants I Can Have Joy!

In Doctrine and Covenants 25:13 it states "Wherefore, lift up thy heart and rejoice and cleave unto the covenants which thou hast made." What are the covenants we have made with God? We have made covenants at baptism, in the temple for our own endowment and if we have been sealed in the temple we have made covenants with our spouse. Priesthood holders have also entered into covenants pertaining to the priesthood. How do we cleave unto the covenants we have made?

A few verses earlier in verse 10 of section 25 it reads, "And verily I say unto thee that thou shalt lay aside the things of the world and seek for the things of a better."  Everyday that I choose to keep my covenants and do the best I can at what I know I should be doing and have promised to do, I can have joy! I can have happiness! I can have peace! What magnificent and wonderful blessings these are! In a world filled with chaos and commotion as I cleave unto my covenants I can find joy, happiness, peace and so much more! All of these are made possible because of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Even when I fall short which most days I do, I can repent and change. I am so grateful for the opportunity that I have each week whether at home or at church, through worthy priesthood holders, to be able to partake of the sacrament and renew the covenants I have made. This helps to lift, empower and strengthen me for the week that lies ahead. Sisters, as we chart these unprecedented times, seasons and challenges may we cleave unto the covenants we have made!

Love,
Sister Janae Poulson
