I Cleave to My Ancestors

"I cleave unto my ancestors, those treasured family members I have never met, but who bring me joy and admiration for their lives. As I have learned their names and their stories, I have truly gained a testimony that their hearts are turned to mine and my heart to their hearts.

This is George Fujita. He was my great-grandfather. In 1912, he began working as a shipping clerk and foreman for the Hawaiian Pineapple Company as well as a Japanese translator for James Dole, for whom the Dole pineapple brand is named. Among many other achievements, he was the originator and pioneer of Japanese radio programming in Hawaii at Station KGMB until WWII broke out; after the war, he continued broadcasting as the head of the Japanese department at Station KHON."
