All I Felt Was Love: Service Stories from Young Women Doing Good Daily

These young women were asked what they've learned about service this year as they've been more mindful of doing good daily:

This Christmas season I learned that selfless service is just as much fun as doing service and being known for it. I love serving others, but when people don't know who is doing it, it makes serving so much more fun.

I have an example of not myself serving, but of being served. Just being a friend can help so much and be of so much service. A smile, an invitation to hang out, or even just sitting by me.

Last year I went to Mexico and built houses for people and played with the orphans in the orphanage. I felt like none of my problems back home mattered anymore. All I wanted to do was help people make their living situation better.

Over the Christmas break, me and my family went to something called Prodsham's Family Christmas. It is where we go and help families who are less fortunate get clothes and food. It felt amazing to help them and theirs faces looked so happy.

I learned that service is unconditional.

Every year, my family goes to an event called the Prodsham's Family Christmas, an event for underprivileged families so they can have a Christmas. While there serving these families and seeing how excited they were to have clothes and food, let alone presents, I got this happy, light feeling in my heart, and it surprised me. I had expected to feel uncomfortable in the face of people who had so much less than I. But all I felt was love. My love for these people, their love for me, and our Heavenly Father's love for us all. Even though there was freezing snow and ice, I was kept warm by the love I felt while serving God's beloved children.

I went to the temple to do baptisms for the dead. I am so glad that I could get baptized and confirmed for those who couldn't do it for themselves while they were on Earth.

This past year, I have been looking extra hard for people who don't have a friend at lunch. So every day my friend and I will go around making sure that everyone has somebody to sit by. One day the school counselor came up to me and told me that this kid really had planned on taking his life. The counselor told me that he wasn't anymore because he was glad that someone like me cared enough about him to help him and be his friend. I know that Heavenly Father loves all of his children, and this experience for me has shown me how important it is to serve others and just be a good friend.

I have been to almost every temple in Utah, and it has been an amazing experience. I love going to the temple because I can feel the Spirit, and I know that I am serving the Lord, and I know that the temple is a great place to be. I know that if you go to the temple you will feel the Spirit and you will receive many blessings. I love going to the temple.

I said the prayer at my cousin's baptism. It made me feel good that I did it.

I helped my mom buy presents for Sub for Santa for a family that doesn't have enough money. It was really awesome.

This year I recognized the importance of being around family during Christmas and that strengthening your relationships with them is one of the most important things to do in this life.

In Young Women we have plenty of opportunities to do service. Whenever we do service, even when we are weeding yards or cleaning houses, I always feel good after. I feel very happy, and I get to see how I have helped others. I love serving, and I have never regretted going to a service activity!

I helped around the house whenever my mom or dad asked or needed it. I helped wrap gifts and make dinners. I helped my mom shop for presents.

There is no downside to service: it helps you, it helps people, and it inspires others. Make the Christmas Spirit last all year long. Help people out.
