We can’t wait to be together with all of you amazing women of the Layton South Stake this Saturday, January 31, at our women’s conference. “Come … find rest unto your soul.” 

Finding rest unto our souls through Jesus Christ means turning our hearts to Him when life feels heavy or uncertain. As we come unto the Savior with faith, He lifts our burdens, calms our fears, and fills us with a peace the world cannot give. His atoning love heals the wounds of sin, sorrow, and weariness, offering comfort and renewal to our spirits. True rest is not found in escape or distraction, but in trusting His promises, following His example, and allowing His grace to carry us through every trial with hope and strength.

 
We hope each of you will join us for the incredible event. It will be an opportunity to be uplifted and feel of the Spirit as we listen to and enjoy the message from Sis. Tammy Hall. We feel so blessed to be able to have her speak to our stake and are thrilled that she will be sharing her incredible testimony and light with each of us. Her message will bless and uplift each of you. So come as you are, bring a friend, allow yourself this time to rest and be uplifted.

For me, finding rest in Christ hasn’t meant that life slows down; it means my perspective shifts. Through busy days, unanswered prayers, and seasons I didn’t choose, He reminds me that I don’t have to carry everything alone. When I turn to Him in prayer, scripture, and quiet trust, I feel steadied. Christ doesn’t remove the burdens, but He strengthens me to carry them with peace and hope.

What does that mean to me in my life? Truly if I didn't have Faith in this, I don't know what my life would be like. My guess is it would be a lot lower functioning.

I watched a podcast the other week about the picture of Jesus knocking at the door and a question was asked. "Why would you keep him out or not open the door?" It made me think of our houses and not wanting people to see the state of our house and not wanting to let someone in. When I think about this individually. I might want to improve myself or accomplish a few things to feel presentable.

Another situation I thought about, a friend that has a daughter on a mission and just lost her Dad. She told me about what she had been doing because she wanted her daughter to be proud of her while she was on her mission. She also wanted her dad to be proud of her. Yes, so sweet and so sweet with how much she cared. As she was talking, there was no doubt in my mind that her Dad and daughter were already so proud of her. The list she had could help her to grow, but that wouldn't change the love they already have for her.

These thoughts helped me to see how Jesus feels about each of us. He already Loves us and we are enough. We can grow, but it doesn't change the way he has already felt for each of us. There is rest even in the knowledge of knowing and understanding this.

I told my friend you don't have to do the list to make them proud of you, I felt the stress lift as she recognized the truth in those words. We will have more rest when we understand he already loves us. In my life I look and rely of Jesus Christ. I don't want to wait until all my duck are in a row before I go to him. I need him now and everyday. My prayers for help along the way bring me rest. As I need him, I want his guidance to help me in all decisions. When I look to Christ while making my decisions I seem to have more peace and rest because I went to Him.

There isn't a better place to turn to make a decision. It doesn't make life perfect and without flaws. For me it takes away the the fear and anxiety of my direction and my mistakes. I wouldn't be turning to him if I wasn't willing to listen to him to the best of my ability. When I turn to him for guidance, I know my heart is trying to be in the right place. With this I feel grace in my mess ups and what is part of our mortal existence to grow. I do not believe God and Jesus work on us with Shame and Guilt. When shame, guilt or fear creep in, I know where to turn and peace can shift back into my life. I am beyond grateful for the rest I feel from turning to Christ. I want to remember not to be worried of what I need to accomplish before he is proud of me and to turn to him first so I can have rest and peace along the way. This can only come from him. Let him in so he can bring rest into our lives. I had a friend send me a Christian quote this week:

"Here is my list of reasons why I'm not panicking with what is going on....
#1: Jesus"

I believe the quicker we turn to Christ. The quicker we have his power to go through life. In this we can have peace and rest anywhere we go. Matthew 11:28 says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” He has promised this to us. Put it to the test and feel it for yourselves. He will live up to his promises in each and everyone of our lives. I know all of us can have rest and peace through Jesus Christ regardless of our circumstances. Rest and peace come from Jesus Christ. He is at the door and always will be. Let him in. I have a testimony of this in my life, in which I am humbly grateful for.

How do you find Rest in Christ?

As I ponder the question “How do I find rest in Christ”, two distinct experiences come to my mind. In both, I was going through something really heavy. I felt fearful and unsure of what I should do. I needed guidance quickly, but felt hopeless. In both experiences, I said a desperate prayer and quickly felt a strong prompting to open my scriptures. In one of the experiences, I grabbed my physical copy that was on my nightstand, and the other experience I was on an airplane and opened up my scripture app. I didn’t have a specific scripture I was looking for, so in both cases, I just opened up where I was on my daily scripture reading. And though they were different sections of the scriptures, they were exactly what I needed in those moments. They both spoke of Jesus Christ and the power that He has to heal and comfort through our faith. My relief was immediate and I felt so much peace. The problem wasn’t resolved in that moment in either experience, but my fear and heaviness were gone.

Life can be messy and heavy, but it is also meant to be beautiful and joyful. Jesus Christ can help us feel that joy and rest. In our everyday lives, we face hard and challenging things, but I know as we sincerely reach out to our Savior, he is waiting to fill us with peace, love, and rest.

How do you find Rest in Christ?

There’s a scripture that I could easily say has been the theme of my life: …He did speak peace to our souls (Alma 58:10). He speaks peace to MY soul.

There’s so much commotion in the world, and sometimes there’s commotion inside of me. Feeling inadequate, disappointed, stretched, frustrated, unsure, and overwhelmed. And somehow, in quiet but powerful ways, He restores peace to my heart. And to my head.

What helps me MOST, is to just BE where HE is. In the scriptures. In the temple. Renewing covenants with Him every Sunday.
The more time and effort I put into being where He is (and trying to be AS He is), the more I come to know Him. The more I come to trust Him. And the more I come to know who I am.

There’s a difference between His peace, and the temporary feelings I get from temporary sources. Because of Him I feel joy and peace in a world that doesn’t offer that. He really IS the answer to everything I’ve encountered in my life. And He will continue to be the answer. Living life with Jesus is the best kind of life. And I love Him.

How do you find Rest in Christ?

As a mother of three young children, with one more on the way, rest can feel elusive. I am easily overwhelmed and overstimulated, and I often long for my version of rest—a break from the constant demands of motherhood.

But, as in so many other areas of life, I am learning that the Lord’s version is better than mine. His rest does not always look like a break from the work; instead, it looks like knowing that I am yoked with my Savior. When I choose to walk with Him, the burden is no longer mine to carry alone.

The Guide to the Scriptures defines rest as “the enjoyment of peace and freedom from worry and turmoil.” To me, this is faith and hope in action. We know that all things are in the Lord’s hands and that “all things shall work together for our good” (D&C 90:24).

 How do you find Rest in Christ?

I’ve learned that rest doesn’t always come from having fewer responsibilities or a quieter life. For me, true rest comes from Jesus. When life feels busy or heavy, turning to Him brings a sense of peace that I don’t find anywhere else.

My challenges don’t immediately disappear, but my heart feels lighter. Through prayer and remembering that the Savior understands me perfectly, I feel less overwhelmed.

I know that Christ wants us to come to Him exactly as we are, especially when we are struggling. Because of His love, I am able to move forward with more peace, patience, and hope. I am grateful that I can always find rest in Him.

 How do you Find Rest in Christ?

The tempo and volume of life are exhausting. I never imagined some of the personal struggles I would deal with, especially as a wife and mother. It has been a very lonely road at times, as the deepest pain is unseen and unspoken. But I am not without hope or peace. And I am not alone.

I love this quote by Elder Renlund. "In unfair situations, one of our tasks is to trust that 'all that is unfair about life can be made right through the Atonement of Jesus Christ.' Jesus Christ overcame the world and 'absorbed' all unfairness. Because of Him, we can have peace in this world and be of good cheer. If we let Him, Jesus Christ will consecrate the unfairness for our gain. He will not just console us and restore what was lost; He will use the unfairness for our benefit."

I have found that as I think celestial and focus on the healing of eternity, I find healing and rest now. Today. So much of this life is temporary. Relationships are not temporary, and my relationship with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are the most important. As I put Them first through daily prayer and study, regular temple worship, and seeking the Spirit, I have perspective. Through Christ and my covenants, I find patience and understanding in my earthly relationships and tasks.

The world is full of commotion, worry, hurt, and never-ending toil. But I have joy in this life because of Christ. He is my Rest.

How do you Find Rest in Christ?

To me finding rest in the Savior has become an effort to try to be in the presence of the Holy Spirit as much as I can. When life feels constantly demanding, heavy, and chaotic, I have come to know through my life experiences that true rest does not come from having fewer burdens. It comes from genuinely bringing authentic self and burdens to the Savior and in acknowledging my absolute need for Him. In that sense of need, those moments become holy.

Lots of times when I’ve felt overwhelmed, spiritually tired, emotionally stretched, and just done. During those moments, the invitation of the Savior, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest,” has become deeply personal to me. I actually HAVE to turn to Him in my weakness in prayer, scripture study, and sincere repentance. I can’t handle all I’ve been given to do without Him. When I try to remember Him daily, I get a quiet but powerful assurance that I am loved and not carrying my struggles alone.

I have learned that the rest Christ offers is not an escape from hard, but strength within it. When I do trust Him and try to align my will with His, my heart has been calmed, my perspective has been changed, and my burdens have felt lighter. Even when circumstances did not change, I felt changed. I felt held, known, and sustained by His grace.

I testify that Jesus Christ lives, that He understands every weakness we have and sorrow we experience, and that His Atonement is real and profoundly personal. He is the source of peace that will give the soul rest. He loves us as we are right now. I testify that we do not earn our worth, we came with it. When we come to Him, do our best to keep our covenants, and rely on His enabling power, we can find rest for our souls and our own growth, even in the middle of the hardest parts of life.
